Kestrel Consultants – Bill Lowe

Bill has a particular interest in creative leadership and how to lead creative teams. The development of new leadership strategies in education, such as system leadership, is providing a lot of new opportunities and is a key part of his current research and development projects.

Having spent the last ten years as a senior lecturer at Newman University in Birmingham he has taken on a visiting lecturer role in order to develop his consultancy work. He writes and delivers university modules in leadership and management at Undergraduate level as well as Master’s degree modules for serving teachers and school leaders.

Bill is a former head teacher and led a diverse team of lecturers at university. He has had a wide range of different roles including local authority consultant for assessment and NQT appeals panel member for the [then] DfEE. He has just finished a four year term as a university external examiner (a quality assessor role).

Having started his teaching career as a secondary PE, SEN and history teacher, Bill moved into the primary sector where has was a teaching deputy head for several years. He has great pride in having spent 25 years in the classroom.

He has work published in TES, School Leadership Today and Management in Education.

He has a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership from Leicester University and a raft of other CPD such as certification in the Strategic Leadership of ICT.

Bill believes strongly in the power of learning communities and professional associations. He is a member of the British Education Leadership Management and Administration Society (BELMAS) and is a fellow of the Higher Education Academy. He is a member of the Historical Association.

With a sharp interest in thinking differently about learning at all levels, Bill is a Mind Mapping Licenced Instructor and Credited Visible Learning Plus presenter.

  • Presenting with impact. Speaking to larger groups (parents, colleagues, other schools)
  • Mind Mapping (using the Mind Mapping for Business idea generation strategies)
  • Coaching colleagues (different approaches to staff development)
  • Future projects will include new thinking on ‘creative leadership’. This should be a significant body of work that reflects the evolution of school leadership.
